Toyota FT-4X Concept

The upcoming Toyota FT-4X Concept that the company recently teased is shrouded in mystery. This concept will be make its world debut at the 2017 New York Auto Show on Apr 12th, 2017. Toyota only says “Four Wheeling. Scene Stealing” in relation to the teaser image above.  All we know is that the concept will be a four-wheel-drive vehicle, have a cool orange color, and ride on relatively low profile 225/55R18 tires and cool 18-inch rims.

There is a lot of speculation swirling around this concept, and here is another one. Could the FT-4X concept be a modern interpretation on the Toyota FJ45 pickup truck from the 1960s and 1970s? Toyota experimented with the retro-styled production vehicle with the FJ Cruiser, which is now out of production and a highly sought after used 4×4. Why not a mini 4×4 pickup truck version?

Of course, the FT-4X could also be next FJ Cruiser SUV or a smaller compact crossover. Also, the FT-4X may never be built. Still, it would be very cool if Toyota produced a modern version of the FJ45 pickup.

There is a lot of action coming up in this space. Jeep will soon debut the next generation JL Wrangler and later the JT pickup truck. Ford is working on the next Ranger and Bronco. Chevrolet is rumored to be working on the next Trailblazer.

What do you guys think?

While we wait for the FT-4X concept, here is a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro on the difficult Cliffhanger 2.0 trail.
