The all-new 2018 Ford Expedition made its official world debut just prior to the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. Ford updated and redesigned every aspect of the full-size F150-based SUV. They updated the chassis, put in a tweaked 2nd-generation 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and the 10-speed automatic transmission, wrapped it all in an aluminum body that is styled to resemble the Ford Explorer, and gave it a spacious interior for all three rows with style that resembles the F-150. The other big news is that Ford is switching to a rotary knob for the 10-speed auto. gear selector.

Ford hinted that the 3.5L turbocharged V6 will make more power than in the 2017 F-150 (375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque). They did not yet provide specific output numbers, but the rumor has it pegged at 400 hp.  That’s a big number, but the upcoming redesigned 2018 Lincoln Navigator will likely have even more power. Could the all-new Navigator get the Ford Raptor spec. engine?  This is only speculation at this point.

Thanks to James, we now have images of a mildly camouflaged Expedition prototype rolling down Michigan streets. The new Expedition will be available in two lengths: standard (as you see in these images) and a longer “Max” that will compete directly against the Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon XL. Check out the Expedition sitting at a traffic light next to three-row Saturn Outlook crossover (a rare sight in itself).
