2020 Ford Bronco Will Be an Old-School Body-On-Frame SUV

There’s a lot of speculation today about the upcoming 2020 Ford Bronco. At the Detroit Auto Show a few weeks ago Ford showed a brief video announcing the new truck, but gave few facts and showed no designs or prototype images of the 2020 Ford Bronco. However we now know that the 2020 Ford Bronco will be an old-school body-on-frame SUV instead of the currently more popular Crossover design.

“You know there is a lot of love out there for the bronco so we announced last week we’re bringing the Bronco back, it’s going to be in the market place in the next three years, it’s going to be body on frame, and we are really going back to the roots of Bronco, and delivering what customers really want,” said Ford CEO Mark Fields at the recent Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Arizona. “We are all excited about bringing it back.”

Ford says that the new 2020 Ford Bronco will not be based on the Ford Everest. The Everest is a Ford SUV that is currently not sold in the United States. However the Ford Everest is based on the T6 generation Ford Ranger body-on-frame platform.

Nathan and I were lucky enough to spy the Ford Everest high altitude testing in Colorado. As you can see in the video below the Ford Everest is a substantial truck that is currently designed in Australia and built in Thailand. It is sold in India and Australia among other countries but not in the USA. The new Ford Ranger and 2020 Ford Bronco will share the same body-on-frame chassis.

This widely distributed image of the new 2020 Ford Bronco from the Ford Bronco Forum Bronco6G.com, the above design rendering looks nothing like the Ford Everest. While it is certainly too early to be sure, we suspect that the retro design rendering above is not likely to be template for the  design direction on the 2020 Ford Bronco. We’re guessing that the finished 2020 Ford Bronco is unlikely to share the squared body design of the fan forum’s rendering. However we’re almost positive it won’t have the rendering’s substantial wheels.

You can be sure that we’ll be on the prowl in Colorado’s high country for any 2020 Ford Broncos that might be high altitude testing in the weeks and months to come. In the meantime check out what we think is the disguised Ford Everest high altitude testing below:
