The New Year is nearly upon us, here is our Top 10 best pickup trucks, truck events, and accessories of 2016. There were so many brand new or updated trucks revealed this year, but we did not get to experience all of them. Some of them are simply not available yet. Still, there are more than plenty great trucks and truck events to talk about. This is our Top 10 list.
10. 1970 International 1300D Airport Fire Truck.
We had a chance to drive and learn about a 1970 International dually 4×4 pickup truck that was in fire department service for 30 years and now has just 7,600 miles on the odometer. It is basically a near-museum quality truck that has very cool history.
9. Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra IntelliHaul Towing Camera System
This is a way to make towing easier with a Chevy Silverado or a GMC Sierra. It’s called the IntelliHaul towing camera system, and it provides additional side and behind-the-trailer views for better awareness and more safe towing.
8. Plan B Supply Military Trucks
Although, I still feel very bad about sinking putting a Plan B Humvee and a Nissan Xterra; there is no denying that Plan B builds some super capable and super cool off-road expedition and survival trucks and RVs out there. I got to drive a 6×6, and ETL Overland 4×4, and many Humvees. Awesome!
7. Gen-Y Hitches
We use Gen-Y hitches for all of our towing needs. Why? These hitches are heavy duty (now capable of up to 30,000 lbs with a 3-inch shank). They offer a height adjustment, which is important for setting up a level truck and trailer. They also can accommodate a weight distributing hitch.
6. 2017 Ford F-150 10-Speed
The 2017 F-150 get a completely redesigned 3.5L EcoBoost V6 second-generation engine that is mated to a first for the class 10-speed automatic transmission. What better place to test one than Ford’s own proving grounds in Michigan? This is one place journalists don’t often get to visit.
5. 2017 Chevy Silverado HD Duramax
The new 6.6L Duramax V8 is finally here. It will power the 2017 Chevy Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks for 2017 model year and beyond. This motor has 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.
4. 2016 Ram HD Dually Towing a Navy Jet
How often does one get to tow a Navy Prowler Jet plane, and back it up into a display area at a museum. For most of us who don’t work at an aerospace museum, this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was for that for me.
3. 2017 Ford Super Duty
Kent and Andre got to drive the all-new 2017 Super Duty in Colorado. The truck is completely new from the frame up, and it has many high-tech features. We also took it on the Midnight Super Ike Gauntlet towing test.
2. 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
Andre was fortunate to go to Maui, Hawaii to test out the new 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. This is the top-dog off-road Tacoma and it has the suspension for some high-speed off-road running.
1. 2017 Ford Raptor
The all-new 2017 Raptor is high-speed desert running machine. Roman and Kent got to take it on a first drive in Southern California. The went over 80 MPH on dirt and crawled over some rocks.
