How to Install the 2017 Chevy Silverado V8 Performance Exhaust [Video]

Earlier in the week Andre helped walk us through the process of installing a performance cold air intake on a 2017 Chevy Silverado. As almost all of you were very quick to point out, a performance air intake can only do so much to enhance performance on an otherwise stock vehicle. There are many more modifications to be done in order to really see the full effect of a performance intake. One modification in particular can make a world of difference in terms of engine performance and sound. That is of course a performance exhaust system, which Andre also had the pleasure of installing on a 2017 Chevy Silverado.

Cold air intakes are great at increasing airflow into the engine, but if the exhaust has not been changed the air flowing out of the engine can only go so fast. This is precisely what a performance exhaust is good for, increasing airflow on the backside of the engine. As I mentioned last time, more air going through the engine means you can inject more gas into the cylinder, get a bigger boom, therefore getting more power out of your engine. On this Chevy’s 5.3L V8, the total claimed power increase is 10 HP over the stock exhaust and intake. While not quite as impressive, the 6.2L V8 sees a 7 HP increase over stock with the same exact modifications. All things considered, this is a relatively easy way to not only increase the power output of your engine, but also to make it sound fantastic.

There is a lot more to be done in the way of modifications. If you are in the search for even more power, new injectors, spark plugs, and an ECU tune can be done to provide even more fuel and air to the engine. However, none of those will make as big of a difference without the airflow modifications that Andre has shown us how to install.
