Ask TFLtruck: Chevy Colorado Crew or Silverado Extended Cab – Which Is More Comfortable?

This week’s question comes from Garrett Weber:

When you had the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon, what were your thoughts on the size of the back seat? Was it comfortable for adults?  I currently have a 2016 Silverado Double Cab, but I am considering the Colorado for my next truck and want to know any opinions on how the back seat was on any extended drives. I appreciate any info!

Double Cab in GM’s full-size pickup speak means extended cab. Those who do not need a large backseat can still have a useful interior for five or six people with four forward opening doors (no clamshell door here). Does the full-size Silverado extended cab have a more comfortable interior than a Chevy Colorado crew cab? The final answer depends on the person and their size, but here the raw numbers.

The Silverado Double Cab rear leg room is 34.63 inches and hip room is 60.23 inches. The Colorado Crew Cab’s measurements are: 35.8o inches on rear leg room and 53.30 inches of hip room. You get about one inch of additional leg room in the Colorado Crew, but the truck is almost seven inches narrower than the full-size Silverado.

I have not spent extended time in the back seat of either truck, but I can say that the middle position in Colorado’s rear seat is uncomfortable. The middle cushion is hard and there is very little leg room.  However, if you plan to transport no more than four people, then the Colorado interior should just as good or better than the extended cab on the Silverado.

What are your thoughts on this subject? Those of you with more experience with either the Silverado Double Cab or the Colorado Crew Cab – please add your comments below.
