TFLtruck really enjoyed our time at the 2016 State Fair of Texas. So many news trucks and so little time to see them all. While the Ram Rebel TRX Concept truck debut took most of the headlines, there were many other truck displays to enjoy. For example, this 2017 Ram Power Wagon prototype display. Truck guys and gals like to look underneath the truck to see the frame, axles, and the rest of the construction. Here is a look at this prototype. Will this tie us over before the truck goes on sale in early 2017? We hope to get behind the wheel in October and get more time with the truck at the beginning of 2017.

Ram built two 2017 Power Wagon prototypes earlier this year to take on the show tour. What you see here is one of those prototypes. The backbone and the powertrain of the truck remain the same, but it receives exterior and interior styling changes. It still has massive axles, front and rear lockers, disconnectable front sway-bar, a winch, and many skid plates.

You can see here that the fuel tank on the driver side in fully protected, and there are steel bars that protect the exhaust system on the other side. The transfer case also gets protection.

The 2017 Ram Power Wagon will be powered by the same 6.4L HEMI V8 as was there before. It has cylinder deactivation to save a little more fuel on the highway, and it’s mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
