Hot on the heels of the 2017 Chevy Colorado announcement, the 2017 GMC Canyon gets the same new powertrain option. It’s a new 3.6L gasoline V6 that is mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission. The news does not stop there, because GMC continues to expand the Canyon lineup with the additional of a Denali and All Terrain X models.

We already know many of the details about the Canyon Denali, when it was announced at the 2015 LA Auto Show. Now, the Canyon All Terrain X joins the lineup and adds the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac P255/65R17 all-terrain tires to an already robust and popular All Terrain model.

The GMC Denali model gets: 20-inch rims, extra chrome, heated steering wheel, 8-inch touch screen GMIntelliLink infotainment screen, 4G WiFi, RemoteStart, and more.

The new 3.6L gasoline V6 is packed full of latest technology. It features continously variable valve timing, direct injection, and Active Fuel Management (ability to run in V6 or V4 modes). All this combines for 308 horsepower @ 6,800 rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. This version of the V6 is more powerful than the 2016 model (which was rated at 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque). The 8-speed automatic has a wider gear ratio spread than the 6-speed automatic. This will allow for quicker starts and more efficient cruising on the highway. GM nor the EPA have not yet released official efficiency estimates.
