Chevy Literally Pokes Holes in Ford’s F-150 Aluminum Truck Bed in new Ad Campaign

Chevy-vs-Ford

Ouch! It just got very serious in the ongoing Chevy Silverado versus Ford F-150 steel vs aluminum truck wars.

In their latest PR and Marketing barrage, Chevy dumped a front loader full of heavy landscaping blocks into the beds of both the steel bodied Chevy Silverado and the aluminum bodied Ford F-150. Check out the video below to see the results for yourself.

Spoiler Alert: The video outcome shows the Chevy’s steel bed dented but primarily undamaged, while the Ford F-150’s bed is also dented and in some places fractured and torn.

A Ford spokesman responding to this new Chevy ad campaign said, “When you’re the market leader for 39 years, competitors sometimes try to take shots at you with marketing stunts. The fact remains that F-150’s high-strength, military grade, aluminum-alloy cargo box offers the best combination of strength, durability, corrosion resistance, capability, safety, and fuel efficiency ever offered in a pickup. We have built nearly a million new F-150s, and our lead over the competition continues to grow.”

Perhaps more interestingly, at 1:42 into the Chevy PR video below you can see what happens when an empty 28-pound toolbox falls into the bed of each truck.  The results are what you would expect from a Chevy PR campaign.

Sandor Piszar, a Chevy Marketing Manager said in a statement, “We engineer and build our trucks with customers’ expectations in mind,” He added, “For example, Silverado features a roll-formed, high-strength steel bed because truck customers demand the ability to haul their toys, tools, and other cargo. These videos demonstrate the real-world benefits of the Silverado’s bed, in both extreme and everyday scenarios.”

In 2015 Ford switched to aluminum construction for their best-selling Ford F-150 in a bid to lower the weight of the truck and to increase fuel efficiency. Ford says they were able to decrease the weight of their F-150 pickup by up to 700 hundred pounds by switching to aluminum construction.

This latest barrage of GM videos is part of an ongoing truck war between GM and Ford for supremacy of the light duty pickup market. What do you think? Has Chevy gone too far in this latest advertising campaign? Please let us know in the comments below.
