2017 Ram Power Wagon Prototype and Many Ram HD Trucks Spied

The 2017 Ram Power Wagon will go on sale near the end of the 2016 calendar year. The truck is getting a new grille, front-end design, graphics, and an all-new interior. Although, the 6.4-liter HEMI and the 6-speed automatic transmission carry over from the current 2016 Power Wagon, the updated truck still has to go through a battery of tests. The new grille changes the aerodynamic characteristics and the powertrain may have new software that needs to be tested in the real world.

One challenging environment is the high altitude of the Rocky Mountains. This is precisely where TFLtruck caught the 2017 Power Wagon prototype and many Ram HD trucks undergoing testing. The main parts of the test are the emissions and performance evaluations.

2017 Ram Power Wagon pre-production

The 2017 Power Wagon you see here shows a mismatched matte-black grille and a chrome front bumper. The production truck will look more like the pre-production version that was shown at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show.

Other noteworthy Ram HD trucks caught at this testing session are the Ram 3500 and 4500 duallies with the heavy gooseneck trailers in tow. We have seen the trailer with the triple dually axles before. Ram used it at their proving grounds for a towing demonstration with the trailer loaded to over 30,000 lbs. Could Ram HD be testing a Cummins turbo-diesel with over 900 lb-ft of torque. We don’t know for sure, but the 2017 Ford Super Duty and 2017 Chevy Silverado HD are just around the corner. Ram is not likely to rest. They are likely working to push the performance envelope of the 6.7-liter Cummins I6.

Another interesting truck is the Ram HD Megacab with what appears to be the 2017 4×4 Off-Road package. Check out the video below for all the details on the 2017 4×4 Off-Road package.
