What if a stock Ram Power Wagon is not enough for your off-roading taste? That is an interesting concept, because the Power Wagon is already a very capable off-road rig straight out of the factory. American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) has an answer with the Ram Prospector kit and a host of additional options to take your Ram HD several levels higher in off-road capability and rugged looks.
A stock Power Wagon comes with locking differentials front and rear, electrically disconnecting sway bar, ample ground clearance, and a winch. There is the 6.4L HEMI V8 under its hood that makes 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, which is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This is all great, but what if you wanted a more capable off-road Ram HD with a 6.7L Cummins I6 turbo-diesel? You can accomplish this with the help from AEV and the Prospector upgrade.
The base Ram Prospector kit includes a 3-inch DualSport suspension system and specially tuned Bilstein 5100 Series shocks that allow for more clearance, axle articulation, fitment of larger tires, and a smoother and more confident ride over a variety of terrain. The kit also includes an AEV-designed front bumper that accommodates a 16.5K Warn winch and fog lights. The other items include a choice of rugged wheel designs, BFGoodrich 37” K02 All-Terrain tires, unique badging, black fenders, and more. All this comes with a warranty from AEV. Prices for the base kit range from $13,925 to $16,863, depending the trim level of the Ram HD truck that you are starting with.
This is not all. You can add around $13,000 more of options to the Prospector to further outfit it for the adventures that lie ahead. Options include side-step choices, air intake snorkel, interior upgrades and bed drawer organizers. In the end, this is a well thought-out kit and a selection of additional options that improve the off-road capability of the Ram HD trucks without sacrificing factory load carrying capacities.
