It’s been a long wait for Raptor fans. The 2017 Ford Raptor is going on sale near the end of this calendar year. The previous generation Raptor stopped sale as a 2014 model. We first saw the next Raptor Concept at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and the 2017 Raptor Super Crew showed up this past January.

The truck is based on the aluminum Ford F-150, but it’s a completely reworked truck, which is why it’s taking this long to bring it to the public. It has a strengthened steel frame, upgraded off-road suspension, a wide stance with unique body work, and the next generation of the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 that is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The engine is big point of contention as many enthusiasts are saddened by the absence of the 6.2-liter V8. Ford promises big power numbers from the new turbo-V6. Preliminary information puts the output around 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. The big question is, will it sound and feel similar to the old V8. The other question is – will the new engine be durable and reliable? Ford is doing a lot of testing, as we have seen and heard of many Raptor prototypes over the last few months.

We cannot wait to get behind the wheel of the new Raptor, in the meantime we will continue to go “Prototype Hunting”.

Take a look at the new Ford Raptor prototype in the wild and among many other Ford trucks.
