There have been rumors lately of a future Jeep pickup with the former Comanche pickup’s name. Is this a hint that the rumors could be true? Not likely, since this Comanche concept vehicle from the 2016 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, UT is actually based on the Jeep Renegade, whereas the upcoming Jeep pickup will be based on the Wrangler Unlimited. Still, this concept is pretty cool.

To achieve the addition of the five-foot bed, Jeep stretched the Renegade’s wheelbase by six inches. Giving the Comanche concept its aggressive off-road stance are 32″ BF-Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires, 16-inch black painted wheels, and a two-inch suspension lift. Other unique parts to the vehicle include the new lower front fascia, winch, off-road rock rails, steel rear bumper, bed-mounted spare tire, doorsill guards, soft top, and custom seat and pedal covers. In case you’re wondering, the color shown here is known as “Beige Against the Machine”. What about the powertrain you say? Well, that’s perhaps the best part of all. The Comanche is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine, which is mated to FCA’s 9-speed automatic transmission.

In today’s truck market, a business case could actually be made for putting the Comanche into production. If Jeep were to make that happen, I would be one of the first in line for an army-green Comanche. Until then, all we can do is watch the video below over and over… and over.
