Spied: Ford Ranger Roaming the Streets of Texas

TFL recently published a story about a UAW deal that brings North America one step closer to having a Ford Ranger to call its very own (as well as a potential Bronco). A reader just sent us this picture of what appears to be the current Ford Ranger sold in foreign markets driving through the streets of Texas completely undisguised. Is this Ford testing the Ranger? Not likely since the 2016 Ranger is already on sale overseas. Also, it would surely be heavily camouflaged. Is this just a Ranger that somebody imported? Is this a truck that was sold in Mexico? We do not know for sure. If you have any ideas on what this truck was doing in the U.S., please share them with us. What we do know is that many people were disappointed by the absence of a new Ranger concept at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. But this image rekindles our excitement at what the new Ranger might look like.

In Australia, the Ranger is offered with a pair of diesel engines, a 2.2L and a 3.2L. The latter produces about roughly 200 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. If this engine were to carry over to the U.S. market, the new GM Duramax trucks could have some serious competition. Then again, the 2.7L EcoBoost would also be a blast in truck this size. The 2016 Ranger is built in Thailand, South Africa, Argentina, and Nigeria for 180 markets around the world, just not North America… yet.
