Next Generation Nissan Frontier Rendered [News]

Currently in its second generation, the Frontier has not received a significant update since 2004. Our friends over at TopSpeed have rendered what they believe the next Frontier might look like (shown above). Click here for the TopSpeed article. Drawing heavily from the Nissan NP300 Navara sold elsewhere in the world, the artist’s conception also has a hint of the new Titan.

One of the trucks that received the most buzz last year was the all-new Nissan Titan XD, especially the one fitted with a 310 horsepower 5.0L Cummins V8 turbo diesel. TFL recently reported on the company’s announcement of the standard half-ton Titan as well. Since those two trucks will both be on the market soon (as well as the 2017 Armada), the next logical step for Nissan would be to update the elderly Frontier, which has been aging on the back burner for quite some time.

Toyota released the new Tacoma late last year, and the GM Colorado/Canyon twins were also introduced. This year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit failed to bring us the much anticipated Ford Ranger, but it did reveal Honda’s new Ridgeline, which was met with mixed reviews due to its standard front-wheel-drive configuration and unibody construction. So it seems the midsize pickup market might be ready for another body on frame contender.

Whatever the new truck looks like, Nissan better make a move before the midsize market cools off… or before it has to go up against a new Ford Ranger. Until some official photos come out, check out the new Tacoma TRD Pro from the Chicago Auto Show in the video below. Hey Nissan, how about an off-road Warrior version of the next Frontier?
