2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD vs a Snowy Gold Mine Hill Video Review

2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD is one of the most off-road worthy vehicles that you can buy today. It is also the most off-road worthy Tacoma that you can buy.

But just how good is it when the road turns snowy, rocky and steep?

There is only one way to find out and that means taking up Gold Mine Hill. On beautiful Colorado Afternoon we loaded up the 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD with video gear and headed into the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

The new Toyota truck has plenty of off-road goodies including underbody protection, Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tires, and an electronically locking rear diff. You can also pick from of several terrain management settings, and the truck includes Hill Descent Control. I selected “Mogul” mode since it seemed to me like Gold Mine Hill was just like driving up a ski slope’s mogul run.

How did the truck do up the ultimate TFL off-road test?

I’m not going to give away the ending of the video since you can watch it below, but I will say that I was much less worried about going up the tight course unlike THIS Gold Mine Hill run with the new 2016 Ram Power Wagon.

A smaller truck is certainly better in the woods and snow when a wrong turn can mean the difference between going up hill as a driver, or sliding downhill as a passenger.

We just got smothered in snow in Boulder at the same time that we took delivery of the new 2016 GMC Canyon with the diesel Duramax and the new 2016 5.0L Ford F-150. You can be sure that after we hitch up both trucks and take them up the Ike Gauntlet we’ll also see how they drive up a freshly snow-covered Gold Mine Hill.

BTW: If you want to know what trucks we are testing and/or you want a sneak peek at TFL’s newest videos just join TFL’s new truck forum HERE where we promise to give you the behind the scenes scoop and of course discuss all trucks all the time.
