Nissan Titan and Titan XD to Get a New Gasoline V8 With 390 Horsepower [News]

2017 nissan titan xd gas v8 engine

The all-new Nissan Titan XD and the light-duty Titan are getting a new V8 gasoline engine. Nissan calls it Endurance®, and the next generation motor is a 5.6L V8 with DIG™ direct injection that produces 390 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 401 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm. This puts the new engine smack dab in the middle of V8 power plants Ford, GM, Ram, and Toyota. At first glance, this is a high-tech and modern engine that features four valves per cylinder, a relatively high 11.2:1 compression ratio,Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL), and Multi Control Valve (MCV) that assists with thermal control.

As a reference, consider that the previous Titan V8 produced 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque. Nissan says that the old and new engines share only their 5.6L displacement. The next generation V8 has a lot of upgrades to make it more powerful and presumably more efficient. Nissan did not release MPG numbers at this time. It will be interesting to see how the new powerful V8 stacks up against the competition in terms of fuel economy and power delivery. The 7-speed automatic will be paired with the gas motor to help with all aspects of driving dynamics and fuel economy.

The new Endurance® V8 will be assembled in Decherd, Tennessee and will go on sale in “early spring of 2016”, according to Nissan.

The 5.6L gasoline V8 will join the 5.0L Cummins turbo-diesel V8 in the Titan XD trucks. The XD lineup is going on sale this month with the Cummins as the only engine choice. The light-duty version of the new Titan will also go on sale in early spring of 2016. It will use the 5.6L gas V8, but not the 5.0L diesel. There will be another engine option for the light-duty Titan. There will be a V6 gasoline engine, but the specifications for this one are still forthcoming.
