The mid-size pickup truck is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, it continues to expand. There are four serious players in the segment now, and the leading Toyota Tacoma is showing the strongest growth.
Can the Chevy Colorado (and GMC Canyon) catch the long-time segment leader? The all-new Colorado and Canyon twins came on the scene in October of 2014. After seven months of sales the two reached over 9,400 units for the month. This constitutes approximately 60% of the Tacoma sales volume. The Tacoma is actually expanding the lead, and this is before the all-new 2016 Tacoma is available.
The all-new 2016 Tacoma will go on sale later this calendar year, as will the turbo-diesel versions of the Colorado and Canyon. Stay tuned for more action in this segment.
The Nissan Frontier is still holding the third place with month-over-month and year-to-date sales improvements.
