There are not many consumer vehicles with the interior space and passenger utility of the 2015 Ford Expedition EL. The “EL” is the long wheelbase version of the Explorer and it will accommodate eight adults in comfort. Also, there is a new engine under the hood for the 2015 model year Expedition. You know it as the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 from the F-150. This full-size SUV has the power and size to spare. So, it makes for a good prototype hunting vehicle, and this is exactly what team TFL decided to do.

The 3.5L EcoBoost makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, just like it does in the Ford F-150. (If you want even more power, you will have to step up to the Lincoln Navigator). The 6-speed automatic transmission sends the power to the AWD/4×4 system. There are separate modes for all-wheel-drive or 4×4 modes. Of course, you can also run it in plain 2WD. Combined EPA rating is 16 MPG, with 14 MPG city and 20 MPG on the highway.

This long version of the Expedition with the 4×4 system is not a light-weight. The curb weight is at 6,090 pounds. However, the turbos compensate and have plenty of acceleration performance at high altitudes of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Check out the this episode of Prototype Hunting as the entire TFL team rides together. We find peculiar looking Ram HD trucks.
