2015 Ram HD 2500 – Boss snow plow

There is more to running a snow plow than just jumping into the truck and bashing through a pile of snow. You need to select the right plow and truck for the job. In this case, we are using a BOSS standard-duty plow mounted to a 2015 Ram HD 2500 truck. The truck you are using need to have a strong-enough frame to attach the plow mechanism and to withstand the force of plowing and potentially striking some obstacles hidden by the snow.

You also need to understand the weight of the plow and whether your truck can handle it. For example, this BOSS plow blade weighs 597 pounds. The attachment mechanism can weigh up to 105 pounds. It means you are hanging over 700 pounds of weight far ahead of your pickup. You need to know the GAWR limit for your front axle and not exceed it. The 2015 Ram HD 2500 with the 6.4L HEMI has a front axle GAWR limit of 5,500 lbs. The HEMI V8 engine weighs less than the I6 Cummins diesel, so you need to consider this as well.

Having additional weight out front will affect the handling, braking, and acceleration of your truck. You need to balance out the weight by adding load to the rear. This can be dead ballast (this test truck is using 500 lbs of steel frame), or a box spreader.
