It’s very important to safely load a vehicle for transporting on a trailer. First, you need a trailer that is capable of carrying the load. The Loadtrail tilt trailer you see here is 22 feet long and has two 7,000 lbs axles. This is a heavy-duty trailer with a gravity assisted hydraulic tilt mechanism. The trailer weighs approximately 4,000 lbs, so it can handle an approximate load of 10,000 lbs. This 1968 Ford Bronco half-cab weighs just over 3,200 lbs, so there are no issues there.
You then need to properly secure the vehicle on the trailer. There are several ways to do this. One of the most straight-forward ways is to use wheel straps, where you tie each tire down to the trailer. That way vehicles suspension can move up and down, and there is little chance of the tire straps loosening. You need to make sure the tires are inflated and there are no leaks.
You can use chains or long straps to tie down to the axle or the frame. You need to select chains or straps with enough tensile strength to hold a heavy vehicle. If you are using chains, then you need a chain tensioner. We are using straps in this video to tie-down around the axle differential housings front and rear. You need to make sure the vehicle itself is in park or with parking brake on. And the straps or chains need to make sure the vehicle cannot move forward or backwards.
