Will the Freightliner MT45 and MT55 delivery vans use the 5.0L Cummins V8 diesel motor along with the Nissan Titan? Freightliner is not new to using Cummins diesel engines in its van, medium duty, severe duty, and semi truck vehicles.
Nissan has a new relationship with the Cummins engine manufacturer and it comes with the new 5.0L Cummins V8 motor in the next generation 2016 Nissan Titan. There is unofficial information that the turbo-diesel engine produces 275 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque. However, it makes sense that Cummins would like to find more applications for the new engine to get better economies of scale.
TFLtruck received information that Freightliner is testing the 5.0L V8 in their MT45 diesel van chassis. Think of the MT45 as the medium to large “walk-in” delivery vans. Freightliner says that the van Cummins power goes up to 240 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque with exceptional fuel economy. There is no official word on whether the 5.0L V8 is being used.
