Truck segment continues to see healthy sales growth in September 2014. The fuel prices are low at the moment and GM and Ram pickups are taking best advantage of it.

The Silverado made a huge 54.5% gain for the month over September of last year. In fact, Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra September sales eclipse the mighty Ford F-series. Chevy and GMC pickups sold a total of 66,939 units, versus 59,863 for the F-series. Ford still holds the sales lead year-to-date (YTD 2014).

Ford F-150 is in a middle of a model changeover. The factories are preparing for the all-new 2015 F-150, and the next generation of the truck will start reaching industry customers at the end of 2014 and individual consumers in early 2015.

Ram trucks is still showing best YTD growth of 22% and significant increase of 30% for the month of September. There is also news that Ram is increasing production and mix of the 3.0L light duty EcoDiesel powered Rams. High efficiency is still important for pickup buyers.

The other sales stand-out is the Nissan Frontier that shows that smaller pickups still matter. Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon have just began to ship to dealers at the end of September, so the mid-size segment is about to get busier.
