2015 Ford F-150 – Why the Weight Loss? [Video]

Taking the weight out of the truck translates directly to the amount of work it can do. Suspension, tires, and other components have a maximum weight rating. If you can make the truck itself more lightweight, it means you can carry more payload.

The 2015 Ford F-150 has attacked the weight problem by using high-grade aluminum for all body components and high-strength steel within the frame. This enabled up to 750 pounds of weight loss.

Ford decided to demonstrate this difference by stacking up the new F-150 crew-cab against the similarly equipped Ram 1500 crew cab. Both trucks had 1,200 lbs in the back. In the end, the Ford had 680 lbs of leftover capacity, while the Ram was over the GVWR. Watch this test below.
