Are you looking for a comfortable, high-tech, and capable adventure vehicle? This is what the Volkswagen Tristar concept is aimed at. It’s half a commercial T-series (or Transporter) van and have a pickup truck. It pays homage to the original Syncro Tristar vans from three decades ago. It’s a concept to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

This beefed up van has a permanent 4Motion four-wheel-drive system with a mechanically locking rear differential. It sits 30 mm (or 1.2 inches) higher than the production model and uses meaty BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/A tires mounted on 17 inch rims. Propulsion comes from a 2.0L TDI engine with 201 horsepower @ 4,000 rpm and 331 lb-ft of torque @ 1,400 rpm. The power is flowing through a 7-speed DSG automated transmission and the company claims a 0-62 MPH sprint of 10 seconds flat.

However, this Tristar is more at home traveling at much lower speeds and on rough terrain. It is also suited to handle a business meeting at a construction site or any other remote area. Both, driver and passenger seats slide and swivel. And a 20-inch touch-screen tablet computer table can be quickly setup, along with a state-of-art video and voice conferencing system.  There is even an espresso machine and a cooler installed inside the cab.  However, there is only room for two people.

There is spare tire mounted in the bed and bed sides fold down to reveal a flat bed floor, just as it did on the original Syncro. There is also a water-tight pull-out drawer under the bed floor to hide important items.
