TFL is in Austin, TX this weekend for the 2015 Audi S3 launch event. However, Texas is better known for the love of pickup trucks. Ford plans to make an announcement at the 2014 State Fair of Texas at the end of this month about the Ford Super Duty.

Will it be the announcement about the next generation 2016 F-Series Super Duty with aluminum body construction? This seems unlikely because it would take focus away from the launch event of the 2015 Ford F-150, which is the week of September 29th.

There is another possibility. Ford may announce a higher torque rating for the 2015 6.7L Power Stroke V8. The updated engine just came to market this year with a larger turbocharger, upgraded fuel system, and an exhaust brake to boot. It is currently rated at 440 horsepower and 860 lb-ft of torque.

The torque war is on, so Ford may answer with a software upgrade for 870 or 880 or more lb-ft of twist. It would not be the first time that Ford made an upgrade like this.

In the end, consumers everywhere win as truck manufactures compete on the big stage.
