The new Ford Super Duty is designed to be the ultimate towing machine. Ford sells the most pickups in the U.S. and the company wants to maintain that lead by providing class leading towing capacity in their Heavy Duty pickups. The 2015 model year update is really about the engine. The 6.7L Power Stroke V8 get a bigger turbocharger, bigger injectors, and an exhaust brake to help bring the whole train to a safe stop. The power is immense. This turbo-diesel puts down 440 horsepower and 860 lb-ft of torque.
Ford claims many best-in-class figures: 31,500 lbs of maximum towing (don’t forget to bring your commercial driver’s license); 40,000 lbs of maximum combined GCWR; and best fuel economy. Ford has invited TFLtruck to try this out for ourselves. They even provided competitive pickups from Chevy and Ram. What does Ford have in store? You will have to wait a little to find out.
