The 2014 Ram ProMaster has been on sale for several months now. The initial power came from the 3.6L Pentastar V6. Ram initially announced that the large 3.0L four cylinder turbo diesel will be coming.
We have now caught the diesel units testing at high altitude of Colorado. There is no mistaking the diesel exhaust sound and the telling green sticker next to the fuel door.
This Fiat turbo-diesel produces 174 horsepower @3,600 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque @ 1,400 rpm. The added torque and turbocharging will come very handy for delivering heavy loads in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond. After all, the ProMaster is rated for maximum 5,189 pounds of payload. The operators will be pleased that this motor can go up to 18,500 miles between oil changes.
Expect the diesel ProMaster vans to be available later this year.
