What are these new Toyota Hilux doing in North America?!

Riddle me this: why are there brand-new Toyota Hilux in the USA on the back of this trailer? The Toyota Hilux trio were spotted heading north on Interstate 95 south of Savannah, GA. The Toyota Hilux is a very different truck than the Toyota Tacoma in our market. These are left-hand drive models which indicates they (may) come from Thailand and would be called Toyota Hilux Vigo.

That’s all that can be logically surmised from these photos.

It doesn’t answer the question as to their presence and why they are openly being carried. Normally, test vehicles are hidden during transport. These Toyota Hilux answer few questions. Still, there are a few theories:

  1. They are test mules for a new diesel engine that will be available on both sides of the pond.
  2. Toyota is shooting a commercial and opted to shoot it in the USA.
  3. All three Toyota Hilux look identical, perhaps they are being used in a movie?

What do you guys think?

Hey Roman,
I’m a fan and subscriber to your youtube channel. Thanks for the great work all you guys do at TFL. I drive a lot for work picking up equipment. (2011 F-250 6.7 Diesel). Yesterday I was driving up to Augusta, GA when I saw a Semi carrying 3 Toyota Hilux. I was heading North on I-95 just south of Savannah, GA. This was the first time I’ve seen them in person. They look like the crew cab upper trim models. I’ve been thinking about this and being Toyota is based in South California, and Dallas I cannot figure why they would be in Georgia. Have you heard any rumors why Toyota would have them here in the US? Also any idea why they wouldn’t be on a standard car carrier? Attached are some pics.
