Pickup trucks and vans go green in April, 2014 sales.  It’s a good time to sell trucks and vans.  Last month, the big news was that Ram pickup truck line outsold the Chevy Silverado for number two spot on the charts.  Well, Chevrolet restored order in April by selling more than 6,000 pickups more than Ram.  However, Ram is still showing big double-digit growth month-over-month and year-over-year.

Toyota Tundra was the biggest gainer for the month at 23.5%, but it still cannot catch up to the Tacoma or the GMC Sierra.  The huge recent sales success of the Nissan Frontier has slowed down a bit, but it still was the best for year-over-year numbers.

Commercial Van – April 2014 Sales Chart

The big recent news is the production launch of the 2015 Ford Transit commercial line of van, which is replacing the dominant Ford E-series vans.  However, this is not stopping the good-old E-series from growing the sales at the sunset of its life.  Same cannot be said about the Chevrolet Express as it continues a decline.

Ford Transit Connect had a great month of April with 28.6% sales increase.  The all-new 2014 Transit Connect is picking up momentum.  However, the surprise of the month was the Ram Cargo Van (C/V), which is based on the Dodge Caravan.  It jumped up to seventh place over the ProMaster and the Nissan NV200.  Ram is preparing the 2015 ProMaster City for next year, but the market is still filling the need with the C/V.
