The 2014 Ford F-150 CNG/LPG will be able to run on liquefied petroleum gas and compressed natural gas. This makes the 2014 Ford F-150 CNG/LPG the only factory prepped, half-ton pickup truck available. Compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas-equipped vehicles are considered to be some of the greenest internal combustion vehicles built.

The 2014 Ford F-150 CNG/LPG engine comes with a (factory installed) gaseous-fuel prep package with hardened valves, valve seats, pistons and rings allowing it to operate on natural gas or gasoline through two fuel systems. The prep option is $315 then a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier has to be selected to supply fuel tanks, fuel lines and unique fuel injectors. The additional equipment can run in excess of $10,000 depending on the size of the tank.

There are lots of after-market suppliers that offer conversions, but Ford is the only automaker that offers the prep package.

“Businesses and fleet customers have been asking Ford to make F-150 available with CNG capability to take advantage of the fuel’s low price and clean emissions,” said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager.

The 2014 Ford F-150 CNG/LPG has a 3.7-liter V6. The 3.7-liter engine gets (an EPA-estimated) 19 mpg combined.

With a purchase of 650 2014 Ford F-150 CNG/LPG vehicles, AT&T sees the value in a fleet of clean and efficient trucks. “We’re almost halfway to our company-wide goal of deploying 15,000 alternative-fuel vehicles by the end of 2018,” said Jerome Webber, AT&T vice president, global fleet operations. “Vehicles such as CNG F-350s from Ford have helped us avoid purchasing 7.7 million gallons of gasoline over the past five years while reducing our fleet’s emissions.”
